Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- National Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent qualification)
- Current registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa as an Environmental Health Practitioner
- Valid Code B driver’s license (essential for fieldwork)
Experience
- Minimum two years’ relevant work experience in environmental health practice
- Demonstrated experience in community health education and enforcement
Key Competencies
- Bilingual communication skills (English plus at least one other local official language)
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory abilities
- Excellent report-writing and presentation skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to interpret and apply health legislation
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be physically fit and able-bodied to perform field duties. Shortlisted applicants will undergo a mandatory medical examination conducted by our Occupational Health and Safety Division.
Key Responsibilities
Public Health Education
- Develop and deliver educational programs on environmental health matters
- Conduct workshops and seminars for community groups and stakeholders
- Create public awareness materials on health and sanitation
Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce health and environmental legislation
- Conduct inspections and monitoring of public health standards
- Investigate health complaints and nuisances
Community Engagement
- Serve as liaison between communities and health authorities
- Facilitate participatory health planning with local stakeholders
- Address environmental health concerns in diverse neighborhoods
Administrative Duties
- Prepare detailed reports and recommendations
- Maintain accurate records of inspections and interventions
- Contribute to policy development and implementation
