About the Role
As a SHERQ Officer at RCL Foods, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our corporate and departmental safety, health, environment, risk, and quality (SHERQ) policies and procedures are not only implemented but are followed meticulously. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment within our Malelane facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy and Procedure Implementation: You’ll be the guardian of our SHERQ policies. Your main responsibility will be to ensure that all corporate and departmental SHERQ policies, standards, and procedures are effectively implemented and adhered to.
- Incident Reporting and Investigation: You’ll manage the administration of our incident reporting system. This includes handling legal documents and maintaining registers. When incidents occur, you will conduct thorough investigations to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Training and Coaching: Conducting SHERQ training sessions and providing in-house coaching on various SHERQ aspects will be part of your role. You’ll ensure that all employees are well-informed about SHERQ practices and understand their importance.
- Audits and Inspections: Regularly auditing SHERQ systems is crucial. You’ll inspect permits, housekeeping practices, and other related paperwork to ensure everything is up to standard. Your findings will help in continuously improving our SHERQ systems.
- Liaison and Coordination: As the SHERQ Officer, you will liaise with various departments including the Clinic, plant, and external auditors. You’ll also coordinate with Project Managers about the safety requirements for contractors on site.
- Regulatory Compliance: You will assist the GMR2.1 appointee in ensuring compliance with all legal requirements, keeping all system requirements up to date, and ensuring that the plant adheres to safety regulations.
- Support and Oversight: Overseeing the SHERQ Administrator, first aiders, and safety representatives is part of your role. You’ll ensure that their programs and responsibilities are effectively managed.
- Quality and Food Safety: You’ll play a key role in supporting all Quality and Food Safety (QFS) functions within the Supply Chain, ensuring that our food safety standards are met.
- Risk Assessment Development: Assisting in the development of various types of Risk Assessments will also be part of your duties. This includes identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Who We’re Looking For
- Educational Background: A diploma in Occupational Health and Safety at NQF Level 6 or equivalent SHERQ qualifications is essential.
- Experience: We require at least two years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety administration. Experience within a manufacturing environment will be considered an added advantage.
- Skills: You should have strong computer literacy, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to manage stressful situations while handling multiple tasks.
- Legal Knowledge: Knowledge of SHE-related legal requirements, including the OSH Act, is crucial. Familiarity with QFS systems will be advantageous.
- Driving License: A valid driver’s license is necessary for this role.
- Citizenship: To be eligible, candidates must be South African citizens.
