Your Role
As our new SHEQ Officer, you’ll be at the heart of fostering a positive safety culture and maintaining our high standards of quality and environmental stewardship. Here’s what your day-to-day responsibilities will look like:
- Cultivating Safety Culture
You will design and implement safety programs and campaigns to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization. Your goal is to ensure every employee is engaged and committed to maintaining a safe work environment. - Maintaining Certifications
You’ll play a key role in upholding our ISO certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001). This involves conducting internal audits, addressing findings, and ensuring compliance with these international standards. - Risk Management
Developing and reviewing risk assessments will be part of your role. You’ll assess risks related to our plants, processes, environment, and employee safety, ensuring that we’re always aware of potential hazards and taking proactive steps to mitigate them. - Incident Investigation
When incidents occur, you’ll lead investigations to determine their root causes. Your job is to implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences and ensure that our processes are continually refined. - Performance Reporting
You’ll prepare monthly reports on our performance in safety, health, environment, and quality. These reports help us track our progress and make informed decisions to enhance our SHEQ practices. - Quality Control Oversight
Daily evaluation of quality control results will be your responsibility. You’ll advise management on any deviations from quality standards, ensuring that our products meet the highest quality criteria. - Continuous Improvement
Identifying and leading continuous improvement projects will be a key part of your role. You’ll focus on enhancing our SHEQ performance and implementing strategies that drive excellence. - Document Control
You’ll oversee efficient document control processes, ensuring that only valid and up-to-date documents are used across the organization. This helps maintain accuracy and compliance. - Occupational Hygiene
Ensuring that all necessary occupational hygiene surveys are conducted will be part of your duties. This helps safeguard the health and safety of all employees by monitoring and managing workplace conditions. - Contractor Management
You’ll work closely with contractors and service providers, managing their compliance with our SHEQ standards and maintaining effective contractor management processes. - Legal Compliance
Keeping the company in line with all relevant SHE regulations will be a key responsibility. You’ll ensure that all legal appointments are made and that we adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. - Non-Conformance Reporting
You’ll generate reports on non-conformance findings and ensure they are logged in the applicable database. This helps us track and address any issues promptly. - Statutory Inspections
Conducting factory statutory inspections as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act will be part of your role. You’ll ensure that these inspections are carried out regularly and effectively. - Job Specifications Review
Regularly reviewing the man-job specifications for all company occupations will be necessary to ensure they remain relevant and valid. - Medical Surveillance
You’ll schedule and coordinate yearly medical surveillance for employees, working with our medical services provider and/or Wellness Manager to ensure the health of our team. - PPE Sourcing
Sourcing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in line with identified hazards will be part of your role. Your aim is to mitigate risks and protect employee well-being. - Developing New Standards
You’ll develop and implement new SHEQ standards as needed based on company requirements, ensuring we stay ahead of industry practices and standards. - Contribution to SHEQ Forum
By contributing to the AECI Group SHEQ forum, you’ll be part of a syndicate group that shares best practices and collaborates on SHEQ initiatives across the group. - Food Safety Management
Implementing the Food Safety Management System (FSSC/ISO 22000) will also be part of your responsibilities, ensuring our food safety practices meet international standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification in health and safety or a similar field.
- Experience in the food industry is advantageous.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 & ISO 45001 standards is desirable.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Knowledge of the OSH Act and ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Basic understanding of food safety standards such as HACCP and/or FSSC/ISO 22000.
