Key Responsibilities: What You’ll Do
Your core responsibilities as a SHE Officer will include monitoring, implementing, and enhancing our HSE protocols to ensure complete compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Oversee Health and Safety Systems
- Coordinate and monitor health and safety protocols across our poultry breeding farm and hatchery.
- Continuously assess risks and develop actionable strategies to reduce hazards.
- Conduct Inspections and Ensure Compliance
- Carry out routine and spot inspections inside and outside of our facilities.
- Ensure that all occupational health and safety (OHS) files are maintained and updated in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage Incident and Injury Reporting
- Lead incident investigations to uncover root causes, identify corrective measures, and implement continuous improvements.
- Ensure prompt and accurate reporting of injuries and occupational diseases to relevant authorities (such as the Department of Labour).
- Lead Training and Communication Initiatives
- Schedule safety meetings and coordinate HSE-related training sessions for all team members.
- Facilitate toolbox talks to ensure ongoing awareness of safety best practices.
- Enforce Safe Work Protocols
- Enforce the strict use of Lock Out, Confined Space, and other Safe Work Procedures on-site.
- Manage visitor and contractor safety compliance, including induction processes, mandatory agreements (37(2) agreements), and COID registration.
- Implement Risk Management Measures
- Proactively develop and implement safety plans and procedures aligned with relevant HSE legislation.
- Coordinate Medical and Contractor Compliance
- Organize annual assessments, entry, and exit medicals, and manage medical arrangements for contractors.
- Prepare regular reports to keep management informed of safety metrics and ongoing HSE initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills: What You Bring to the Role
- Health and Safety Qualification: SAMTRAC or an equivalent recognized certification.
- Proficiency in MS Office: Ability to use MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word efficiently.
- Minimum Experience: At least 3 years of experience in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment roles, ideally within agriculture or a related industry.
- Familiarity with Key Legislations: Extensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, COID Act, and National Environmental Management Act.
- Poultry Industry Knowledge: Experience in a poultry or similar agricultural environment is a plus.
