Key Responsibilities
As a Pumping Assistant, you will play a critical role in maintaining and supporting our underground pumping systems. Your duties will include:
- Pump Maintenance & Operations
- Monitor and inspect underground water pumps to ensure they are in good working condition
- Report pump failures immediately to prevent flooding in working areas and travel routes
- Assist in repairs, installations, and relocations of pumps and delivery pipes
- Ensure proper housekeeping around pumping stations to maximize efficiency and safety
- Safety & Compliance
- Strictly adhere to the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and company safety protocols
- Follow instructions from shift supervisors to maintain operational standards
- Conduct all tasks according to required engineering specifications
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with engineers, technicians, and other mining personnel
- Communicate effectively to ensure smooth operations and quick resolution of issues
Qualifying Criteria
Education & Skills
- Grade 11 or equivalent qualification (Matric is advantageous but not mandatory)
- Proficiency in English (knowledge of any other South African official language is a plus)
- Good verbal communication skills for clear reporting and teamwork
Experience & Attributes
- 1-2 years of experience in a mining environment (preferred but not required)
- Basic knowledge of underground water pumps (training will be provided)
- Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions
- Physical fitness for underground work in a mining setting
Additional Requirements
- South African citizenship
- Clear criminal record
