Johannesburg Water is seeking 10 Artisan Fitters to join their team on a 12-month contract basis. About the Role
As an Artisan Fitter, you will be at the heart of maintaining and repairing mechanical systems that keep Johannesburg’s water infrastructure running efficiently. Your work will directly impact the reliability and performance of pumps, valves, pressure-reducing systems, and other essential equipment. This role is not just about technical expertise; it’s about being a problem-solver, a team player, and someone who takes pride in ensuring safety and quality in every task.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Repair and Maintenance: Conducting repairs and maintenance on mechanical plants and equipment, including pumps, level controls, pressure-reducing valves (PRVs), and auxiliary systems.
- Planned Maintenance: Executing scheduled maintenance tasks in line with Johannesburg Water’s maintenance plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Emergency Response: Being on standby for emergency callouts, providing timely feedback to the Telemetry Control Room, and ensuring swift resolution of issues.
- Safety Compliance: Performing monthly toolbox checks to ensure all equipment and practices meet safety standards as per OHASA and SANS codes.
- Reporting and Documentation: Keeping accurate records of work orders, check sheets, overtime sheets, and vehicle inspection logs. Submitting weekly reports to the Operations Manager and adhering to Johannesburg Water’s vehicle policy.
- Team Collaboration: Assisting the Supervisor in planning and organizing tasks, investigating system performance issues, and mentoring junior team members.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualifications: A Grade 10 certificate or N1 (NQF Level 2) qualification, along with a Fitter Trade Test Certificate or an appropriate NQF Level 4 Learnership.
- Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with pumps, valves, hydraulic level controls, and PRVs. Basic supervisory experience will be an advantage.
- Driving License: A valid Code EB driver’s license is essential, as you may need to travel between sites.
- Skills: Strong technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and quality. You should also be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Remuneration and Benefits
