About the CBI Electric: African Cables Learnership

The Cable Manufacturing Learnership is a structured training program that blends theoretical education with practical workplace learning. It is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), ensuring that learners receive training that meets national standards and is recognized across the industry.

During this 12-month program, learners will work alongside experienced operators and technicians at CBI Electric’s production facility, where they will be introduced to the full process of cable manufacturing. This includes operating and maintaining specialized machinery, adhering to safety procedures, and understanding the intricate processes that go into producing high-quality cables used in power and telecommunication systems.

This learnership isn’t just about classroom lessons — it’s about real-world exposure. Learners will rotate through different units within the factory, spending most of their time gaining hands-on experience under expert supervision. By the end of the program, each participant will have developed a solid foundation in both the technical and practical aspects of cable manufacturing.

Why This Opportunity Is Worth Applying For

This learnership is more than just an entry-level program — it’s a career-launching opportunity. By joining CBI Electric: African Cables, learners become part of a respected organization that has been powering innovation in South Africa for decades.

Here’s why this opportunity stands out:

  • National Qualification: You will graduate with an NQF Level 3 qualification in Power and Telecommunication Cable Manufacturing (SAQA ID 210110).

What You Will Learn During the Programme

Throughout the program, participants will cover both theoretical modules and practical skills training, focusing on:

  • Understanding electrical and telecommunication cable types and uses
  • Machine operation and maintenance within a cable production line
  • Safety standards and environmental awareness in industrial settings
  • Measuring and testing techniques used in cable quality control
  • Manufacturing process flow — from raw materials to finished products
  • Communication and teamwork in a production environment

By the end of the learnership, learners will have the confidence to operate various cable production machines and understand how to maintain quality and efficiency throughout the process.
