Position Overview: Artisan Electrical (Permanent)

As an Artisan Electrical, you will be responsible for maintaining ARC’s technical infrastructure and assets to ensure operational efficiency across its sites. The role includes a variety of tasks — from installing new equipment and troubleshooting electrical faults to supervising junior staff and upholding occupational health and safety standards.

You’ll be working out of the Roodeplaat office but may occasionally be required to service outstations like Irene, depending on operational needs. This is a role that demands both technical know-how and the ability to adapt and respond during emergency situations, including electrical issues involving 11 KVA lines.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform regular maintenance on infrastructure and organizational assets.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are clean, functional, and stored correctly.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues promptly.

Installation & Repairs

  • Install and commission new equipment including Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Refrigeration systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive repairs and support critical infrastructure during breakdowns or crises.
  • Work overtime when necessary to minimize disruptions.

Safety Compliance & Operational Support

  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in workshops.
  • Proactively identify and manage operational risks.

Administrative & Team Support

  • Assist with managing tool and stock registers.
  • Support the manager in maintaining accurate records of stock levels.
  • Supervise a team of artisan assistants to ensure efficient workflow.

Minimum Requirements

  • Electrical engineering N6 or a comparable technical degree.
  • Valid Trade Test Certificate (Electrician).
  • At least 3 years of experience in various artisan tasks within the electrical domain.
  • Basic computer literacy and good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Location & Working Conditions

  • Base Location: ARC-AP Roodeplaat, Pretoria.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional servicing of outstations such as Irene.
  • Work Hours: Standard hours with flexibility to work overtime during emergencies.
