What You’ll Be Responsible For
As a Mechanic General, you won’t just be maintaining machines — you’ll be directly contributing to uptime, safety, and operational efficiency for clients across South Africa. Here’s what the day-to-day looks like:
- Preventative and Scheduled Maintenance:
You’ll follow Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines to carry out scheduled services, inspections, and preventative maintenance on heavy machinery. - Diagnostics and Troubleshooting:
Using your technical training and experience, you’ll identify and repair system faults on earthmoving equipment, whether hydraulic, mechanical, or electronic. - Onsite Repairs:
Much of your work will be performed directly at customer locations, making your role crucial in limiting downtime and maximizing productivity. - Accurate Reporting:
You’ll be responsible for compiling detailed machine service reports, including Machine Inspection Reports (MIRs) and Technical Analysis (TA) Reports. Your failure analysis and condition assessments will support warranty claims and ongoing maintenance planning. - Safe Work Practices:
You’ll be expected to strictly follow safety protocols and Contamination Control Standards, ensuring every repair or inspection upholds the company’s quality assurance practices. - Professional Conduct:
Whether on-site or interacting with customers, you’ll maintain a high standard of professionalism, representing the brand with integrity and confidence. - Administrative Control:
You’ll handle your own service reporting, part returns, labour booking, and ensure compliance with ISO quality and productivity benchmarks.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to bring a combination of qualifications, hands-on experience, and soft skills. Here’s what the company is looking for:
Education and Trade Requirements:
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic
- NQF Level 3 Certification in relevant trade
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with machine-specific technologies, components, and repair protocols
- Understanding of SIS, STW, and ET systems (basic level is acceptable)
- Competency in reading and preparing technical service reports
- Ability to perform diagnostics and fault-finding on complex equipment
Soft Skills and Attributes:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with customers and team members
- Strong sense of accountability and independent work ethic
- Attention to detail in both hands-on tasks and written reporting
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Code B Driver’s License
- Familiarity with supplier warranty policies, procedures, and systems
