Bus Driver Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Vehicle Operation:
- Drive the bus or vehicle in strict accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
- Ensure the safety of all passengers and adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
- Vehicle Inspection:
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to assess the vehicle’s condition.
- Perform safety walk-round checks and address any issues before commencing your route.
- Trip Documentation:
- Maintain accurate trip logs, including recording open and close kilometers for each trip or route.
- Timely Service:
- Adhere to the set timetable, ensuring that the bus runs on time, neither early nor late, while always prioritizing safety.
- Compliance with Road Rules:
- Observe and enforce road rules within bus depots, bus stations, and on public roads, adapting to abnormal conditions as necessary.
- Professional Appearance:
- Wear the prescribed uniform at all times during your shift to maintain a professional appearance.
- Customer Interaction:
- Communicate effectively and professionally with passengers and other stakeholders.
- Provide courteous, friendly, and helpful service to enhance the travel experience.
- Vehicle Cleanliness:
- Ensure the vehicle is clean and tidy before starting any route or trip.
- Reporting and Maintenance:
- Report any vehicle defects or issues immediately to the Operations Controller and ensure they are addressed promptly.
- Monitor and report any expiring vehicle licenses and Certificates of Fitness (COF).
- Health and Safety:
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) regulations.
- Understand and follow emergency and evacuation plans and procedures.
- Report safety hazards and risks to the Operations Manager without delay.
- Compliance and Training:
- Attend safety and compliance meetings as required.
- Be knowledgeable about University Health & Safety Policies and Emergency Fire Procedures.
Requirements:
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of active passenger driving experience, specifically with buses.
- Licensing: Valid Driver’s License Code EC1 (0,4) or EC, along with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
Technical Competencies:
- Driving Skills: Advanced driving skills are essential.
- Skills: Basic writing and numeracy skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours:
- Customer Service: Excellent customer service skills to engage positively with passengers.
- Communication: Strong communication skills to interact effectively with passengers and team members.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders.
- Relationship Building: Develop and sustain professional relationships with passengers and colleagues.
