Purpose of the Role
This involves driving an assigned truck, completing pre-inspection checks to ensure roadworthiness, and adhering to all relevant safety and compliance standards. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for maintaining clear communication with customers and internal teams, offering excellent customer service at every stop.
This role is integral to the success of our supply chain, ensuring that our products reach their destinations on time while maintaining the high standards Econo Foods is known for.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-Trip Inspections & Maintenance: You will be responsible for conducting regular pre-inspection checks on the assigned vehicle to ensure it is roadworthy. Any mechanical issues or maintenance needs should be reported immediately to ensure smooth operations.
- Safe and Timely Deliveries: Your primary duty is to ensure goods are delivered to customers accurately and on time. This involves loading and unloading the truck efficiently and following specific delivery instructions provided by our warehouse or customers.
- Documentation and Reporting: Keep meticulous records of daily activities, including mileage, fuel consumption, delivery receipts, and any incidents or accidents that occur during your duties. This information must be maintained in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Customer Interaction: Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through professional and courteous communication. Address any delivery-related concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.
- Truck Cleanliness and Organization: Drivers are responsible for keeping their trucks clean and organized. This includes regular cleaning, removing debris, and ensuring all necessary delivery documentation and equipment are accessible.
- Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all company policies, including those related to vehicle operation, safety standards, and workplace conduct. You must comply with all relevant traffic regulations and always operate within safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Team Collaboration: Attend meetings, participate in training, and support your team in achieving operational goals. Your role is key to the overall success of the team, and your contributions will help us maintain the high standards that set us apart in the industry.

Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification is required.
- Experience: Proven experience of at least 3-5 years in a similar delivery driver role, preferably within the FMCG retail industry.
- Licensing: A valid Code 10 driver’s license is required. Experience with a Code 14 (EC) license is a plus, though not essential.

- Communication Skills: Fluent in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, warehouse staff, and other stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy is key when it comes to handling delivery paperwork, documenting mileage, and ensuring the correct goods are delivered.
- Adaptability: You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ability to adapt to changes and solve problems quickly will serve you well in this role.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with basic technology, such as Microsoft software, is a plus, as you may need to use systems for documentation or communication.
