Why This Internship Is More Than Just a Job
At Unilever, we believe in growing careers, not just filling roles. This internship is part of our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and graduate talent development pipeline. You won’t just be doing tasks—you’ll be immersed in a structured program where you’ll apply your theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios in one of South Africa’s most advanced manufacturing settings.
From day one, you will be integrated into our supply chain operations and exposed to state-of-the-art industrial and process engineering practices. This 12-month paid internship offers not just training, but real involvement in process improvements, waste reduction initiatives, and innovation projects that directly contribute to our goal of achieving zero defects, zero waste, and zero losses.
What You’ll Be Doing: Real Work with Real Impact
As a Process Engineering Intern, your role will revolve around improving manufacturing efficiency, safety, and quality. You’ll be trained to think critically and analytically, to investigate and resolve issues, and to support frontline factory teams through coaching and technical assistance. Your work will align with our core manufacturing pillars—Cost Deployment, Quality Improvement, and Safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete all internship deliverables as required by Unilever’s training framework, including attendance at training sessions, timely submission of assessments, active participation in projects, logbook maintenance, and presentations.
- Work alongside experienced line teams to understand factory processes and become an integral part of the continuous improvement culture.
- Use data-driven methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Root Cause Analysis to identify and reduce production inefficiencies.
- Support the transformation of traditional production teams into semi-autonomous, high-performing units through training, technical support, and process documentation.
- Act as a knowledge sharer by assisting line operators in understanding and resolving operational issues. You’ll also be involved in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training manuals.
- Champion safety and compliance by ensuring adherence to site policies, business codes of conduct, and environmental standards.
You’ll also contribute to cross-functional projects focused on waste elimination, energy efficiency, cost control, and automation, enabling you to leave your mark on the operational footprint of one of the world’s leading brands.
