Position: Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver (Springs, Gauteng)
We are currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to join our team on a permanent basis. This role involves transporting goods for our client, Distell, across Gauteng and ensuring that deliveries are completed efficiently and safely. Your expertise in handling ultra-heavy vehicles, along with your commitment to safety and customer service, will make you an invaluable asset to our team.
Key Responsibilities
As an Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver, your role will include the following responsibilities:
- Vehicle Preparation and Operation: Prepare your vehicle for trips and ensure it is in optimal condition. You will be responsible for driving ultra-heavy vehicles to various destinations, adhering to all safety standards and road regulations.
- Loading, Transporting, and Offloading: Safely load and transport goods to different clients and locations. You’ll be responsible for handling any required documentation, ensuring the accuracy and security of all loads, and overseeing the offloading process — whether by operating offloading equipment or supervising others.
- Vehicle Inspections and Safety Compliance: Conduct regular inspections of your vehicle to ensure it meets safety and operational standards. You’ll also be trained in and responsible for operating a fire extinguisher, adhering to safety procedures, and ensuring that the vehicle is not overloaded as per the National Road Traffic Act.
- Documentation and Reporting: Handle all necessary paperwork, including trip documentation, and report any emergencies, defects, or issues with the vehicle promptly.
- Customer Interaction: You’ll be representing Unitrans while interacting with clients, so it’s important to maintain a professional and efficient demeanor. Excellent customer service is key to maintaining our reputation and building strong client relationships.
- Adherence to Company Policies: Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with Unitrans policies and South African transportation laws.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 literacy level (verbally and numerically literate) is required. It will be beneficial to have a Grade 12 National Certificate.
- You must possess a Code EC driver’s license with a valid PrDP (DGP).
- At least 3 years of experience driving ultra-heavy vehicles is essential.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Understanding of defensive driving techniques.
- Knowledge of vehicle components and their functions.
- Ability to report emergencies and defects.
- Proficiency in vehicle inspection, including the use of a fire extinguisher.
- Strong understanding of vehicle loading techniques to maximize cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Additional Training & Evaluations
Successful candidates will undergo several evaluations and training processes, including:
- A medical evaluation to ensure you are fit for the demands of the job.
- Completion of USCS training modules and an induction process.
- A practical driving evaluation to verify your driving skills.
- A clean criminal record verification.
