What Is the Role of a Grade C Security Officer at Thorburn?
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, your job will be to ensure a safe and secure environment for clients and their visitors, while also upholding compliance with national security regulations.
Your duties will include patrolling designated areas, monitoring surveillance systems, inspecting facilities and equipment, managing access control points, and responding swiftly to any security threats or emergencies. You’ll also be responsible for documenting incidents, liaising with relevant authorities when necessary, and offering professional customer service throughout your shifts.

Key Responsibilities in Detail

- Access Control & Patrolling: You will control all entrances and exits to ensure only authorised personnel and visitors are allowed on-site. You will conduct routine patrols of the premises to identify and prevent potential risks.
- Asset & Personnel Protection: Your main objective is to safeguard employees, visitors, buildings, and movable assets from threats like theft, vandalism, and unauthorised access.
- Surveillance Monitoring: Use CCTV and other monitoring systems to oversee activities within the premises. If irregularities arise, you’ll take immediate action, including notifying law enforcement if needed.
- Incident Reporting & Documentation: In case of disturbances or violations, you will write clear and accurate reports based on witness accounts and your own observations.
- Emergency Response: Whether it’s a fire, break-in, or medical emergency, you will respond quickly and take appropriate action to protect lives and property.
- Customer Service & Compliance: Uphold Thorburn’s service standards while maintaining full compliance with South African security regulations, including PSIRA protocols.
- Traffic Control & Site Coordination: Where necessary, you will manage traffic flow and parking arrangements, especially during peak hours or special events.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: You must have a minimum of Grade 11 or Grade 12 (Matric). Equivalent qualifications will also be accepted.
- PSIRA Registration: A valid and renewed PSIRA Grade C certificate is mandatory.
- Driver’s License: This is not a requirement, but having a valid driver’s license will be seen as a strong advantage.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer literacy is preferred, especially for report writing and CCTV system use.
