What Does a Technical Support Analyst Do?

In this role, your main responsibility will be to evaluate, troubleshoot, and resolve faults and reported issues that users encounter while using SYSPRO’s software products. You’ll also be on the front lines of support, Making sure that customers receive the timely and effective assistance they need to keep their businesses running smoothly.

Your work will also involve regular communication with the software development team, as well as with SYSPRO’s regional offices. You’ll collaborate to share information about event resolution, ensuring service delivery is consistent and effective at the regional level. By participating in this internship, you will not only gain experience in problem-solving but also deepen your understanding of how software development and customer support go hand-in-hand.

In addition to providing hands-on troubleshooting support, you will also be involved in specialized technical support concerning various aspects of software development. This includes areas like software installations and upgrades, software-related documentation, and dealing with SRS (Software Requirements Specification). Your technical knowledge will grow through direct exposure to the issues that customers face, as well as the processes and tools used to resolve those issues efficiently.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise You Will Need

In order to make it in this internship, there are certain skills, knowledge, and qualifications that will set you up for success. You’ll need at least a Senior Certificate or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification. Having a solid grasp of mathematics, with a score of around 60% in Mathematics or above 80% in Mathematics Literacy, is also important for understanding the technical aspects of the role.

  • SYSPRO Architecture – Knowing how SYSPRO’s software is structured and functions at a core level is a big plus.
  • .NET User Controls & VBScript – Experience with these tools will allow you to navigate and support SYSPRO’s interface and scripting needs more efficiently.
  • C# and SYSPRO Reporting Services – Being familiar with programming languages like C# will be helpful when supporting customers who have customized SYSPRO applications.
  • Microsoft SQL Server – An understanding of SQL databases will allow you to troubleshoot data-related issues that can arise in a business setting.
  • Espresso and SYSPRO Workflow – These tools are important in the daily operations of many businesses using SYSPRO ERP systems, so familiarity with them will be useful.
  • Customization and Installations – You’ll assist with installations and potential upgrades to the software, ensuring that the systems remain up-to-date and customized according to client needs.
  • Crystal Reports, Wyn Reporting, and Microsoft Office – A basic knowledge of these reporting and office tools can assist in resolving common issues with data display and workflow.
