Macsteel Fluid Control (Secunda): SHEQ Officer Job Vacancy

Macsteel Fluid Control is searching for a skilled and proactive SHEQ Officer to join our team in Secunda, Mpumalanga, on a permanent basis. As a SHEQ Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing and maintaining safety standards across SASOL sites in Secunda and Sasolburg. Your work will directly contribute to our commitment to excellence, compliance, and the well-being of our workforce and contractors.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • The minimum is NQF Level 4–5 (Grade 12 or Higher Certificate).
    • It is necessary to have a Safety Management diploma or degree at NQF Level 6 or 7.
  • Experience:
    • five years or more of administrative and operational expertise in a SHEQ setting.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • intermediate level proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook documents.
    • Working knowledge of SAP and other in-house systems.
    • Strong communication, administrative, and presentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

In your role as a SHEQ Officer, you will ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across our sites. Key duties include:

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensuring the company’s compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and internal policies.
  • Staying up to date with SASOL-specific requirements and procedures.
  • Administering and participating in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying hazards, and recommending corrective measures.
  • Performing safety inductions for employees and contractors to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Implementing and maintaining risk assessments for workplace safety.

SHEQ Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintaining and updating safety files to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Preparing monthly SHEQ reports, including safety statistics and updates on the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR).
  • Ensuring the legal register is updated and accessible in accordance with regulations.
  • Managing contractor compliance audits and keeping track of legal appointments across the organization.

On-Site Monitoring

  • Monitoring and controlling contractors on-site to ensure adherence to SHEQ standards.
  • Assisting the Site Manager in developing and implementing Standard Safe Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Safe Work Methods (SWMs) for technicians.
  • Observing and supporting technicians at the Secunda and Sasolburg sites to maintain compliance.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Coordinating and conducting fire drills and implementing emergency procedures.
  • Managing and maintaining the lifting tackle equipment system.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Logging and submitting RMA claims as necessary.
  • Assisting in the development of site operating procedures to enhance workplace safety.
  • Facilitating and ensuring weekly safety talks are conducted.
