What You’ll Be Doing as a Security Guard at Dis-Chem
As a security officer at Dis-Chem, your role goes far beyond simply standing watch. You will be an essential part of the team, responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for staff, customers, and suppliers alike.
Core Duties:
- Patrolling the premises: You’ll conduct regular patrols to ensure high visibility, deter criminal activity, and spot any signs of suspicious behavior or damage.
- Monitoring: Keep an eye on security systems, including surveillance cameras and alarm systems, to detect any disturbances or threats.
- Investigating disturbances: When unusual behavior or incidents occur, you’ll be expected to act promptly—whether it’s investigating suspicious activity or reporting unlawful entry.
- Conducting searches: Perform routine staff, supplier, and vehicle checks as per company policy to prevent theft and other dishonest behavior.
- Crisis response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, or break-ins by alerting the appropriate authorities and assisting evacuation if needed.
- Customer service: Welcome guests and customers in a friendly, helpful manner while maintaining a strong security presence.
- Opening and closing duties: Be vigilant during site openings and closings to ensure all doors, windows, and utilities like taps are properly secured.
Who Should Apply?
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Holds Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent senior certificate.
- Has a valid Grade C PSIRA registration.
- Brings at least 3 years of general security experience—especially within the retail sector, such as shopping malls or warehouses.
- (Optional but helpful): Has at least 1 year in a similar role with duties close to those outlined above.
In addition, you should:
- Be well-spoken and capable of reading and writing in English.
- Be confident, observant, and physically capable of remaining on patrol or standing for long periods.
- Ideally speak a third South African language, though this is not required.
