SBV Hiring Searching Guards

SBV, a cash management and secure logistics leader, is looking for a Searching Guard to join our dedicated team. This position is crucial in maintaining the safety and security of our premises, assets, and employees. If you have a strong attention to detail, a passion for security, and a commitment to upholding company policies and procedures, this might be your ideal opportunity.

As a Searching Guard, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that all security measures are followed, including controlling access to the premises, conducting searches, and maintaining detailed records. You will be part of a team that ensures the safety and security of everyone on site, from employees to visitors, suppliers, and contractors. Your role will be essential in preventing the removal of unauthorized company assets and upholding a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Visitor Escorting and Access Control:

One of the most important aspects of your role will be managing visitor access and escorting. You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring Authorization: All visitors to the premises must be approved by the head of the relevant department before entering. You’ll verify that they have proper authorization to be on site.
  • Visitor Security: Upon arrival, visitors will need to lock their cell phones, cameras, and any weapons in a secure area. This is to ensure that no unauthorized items are brought onto the premises.
  • Issuing Access Permits: You will issue access permits to authorized visitors and ensure that they return them upon leaving the premises.
  • Escorting Visitors: You will escort visitors to their destinations, ensuring that they are always accompanied while on the premises. If necessary, you’ll arrange for their pickup once their business is concluded.
  • Verifying Visitor Identity: It’s crucial to confirm the identity of each visitor before they are allowed entry, ensuring security standards are upheld at all times.
  • Managing After-Hours Visitors: You will ensure that all visitors outside regular working hours comply with company policies and are appropriately escorted.
  • Supervising Suppliers and Service Providers: Suppliers and service providers must never be left unattended while on site, and you’ll make sure they depart after completing their tasks.

2. Conducting Searches:

Another critical responsibility is performing searches to ensure no unauthorized items leave the premises and to protect company assets. This includes:

  • Searching Employees and Visitors: You will carry out searches of individuals as they enter or exit the premises. This ensures no company property or assets are removed without proper authorization.
  • Searching Items and Vehicles: Searches will extend beyond people to include parcels, bags, toolkits, trolleys, or any other items that could conceal or carry company property.
  • Random Searches: On occasion, management may request that you search employees from different departments as part of a random or targeted security procedure.
  • Reporting Suspicious Activity: If anything suspicious is found during a search, you must report it immediately to the Security Compliance Officer for further action.
  • Control of Personal Devices: You will be responsible for managing and controlling access to personal items like firearms, cell phones, and cameras brought onto the premises by employees or visitors.

3. Record Keeping and Documentation:

  • Documentation of Property Removal: You will be responsible for ensuring that all company property leaving the premises is properly documented, including securing authorization for its removal.
  • Asset Tracking: You will maintain a detailed log of company assets, including serial numbers and equipment details, to ensure that everything is accounted for.
  • Visitor Records: Every visitor to the premises will need to complete a visitor slip, which must be filled in with accurate information upon entry and exit.
  • Audit Reports: You will assist in maintaining the necessary documentation for audit purposes, ensuring compliance with company policies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • You must have at least Grade 12 or its equivalent.
  • A police clearance certificate can be required, but you must have a clean criminal record.
  • A spotless credit history is a prerequisite.
  • It must be your first time taking part in the Youth Employment Service (YES) program. This will be confirmed throughout the application procedure.
  • Applicants must be currently unemployed at the time of application. An affidavit confirming your unemployed status will be required.
  • Candidates should be between 25 and 30 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications:

While the following are not mandatory, they would be considered beneficial:

  • PSIRA Registration: Holding a PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) certification at levels E, D, or C will be an advantage.
  • Firearm Competencies: If you are certified in firearm handling, this will be a plus but is not required.

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications, we are looking for individuals who exhibit the following qualities:

  • Integrity and Honesty: Your role will require a high level of trust, and you will be responsible for safeguarding company assets and maintaining security.
  • Attention to Detail: You must have excellent attention to detail, especially when it comes to conducting searches and keeping accurate records.
  • Physical Stamina: The position requires you to be on your feet for long periods and to conduct thorough searches, sometimes under challenging conditions.
