Working primarily in a hybrid capacity at our Centurion office, you will apply your expertise to create, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety and health programs, ensuring our workspaces are safe and environmentally responsible.
Key Responsibilities
Your role as a SHE Specialist will involve a range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring adherence to the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental protection. You’ll be a driving force behind our commitment to a safe and sustainable work environment.
- Technical Expertise in Safety Compliance
- You’ll be responsible for some of the most complex technical work within environmental, health, and safety (EHS) disciplines. This includes working in compliance with both AECOM’s internal standards and local, state, and federal regulations.
- By maintaining advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements, you’ll ensure that our projects meet all relevant compliance standards, keeping our workforce and clients safe.
- Data Analysis and Problem Resolution
- Using your analytical skills, you’ll assess potential hazards and risks within the work environment, analyzing data to anticipate and resolve issues before they become incidents.
- Your independent judgment will be crucial in providing expert recommendations that improve our operations while minimizing safety risks.
- Development and Implementation of Safety Programs
- You’ll design, implement, and maintain health and safety programs tailored to our project environments. Your programs will address both everyday workplace safety and specific project-related risks.
- By developing clear systems and procedures, you’ll provide guidance on best practices for hazard prevention, emergency preparedness, and safe operational standards.
- Accident Investigation and Hazard Prevention
- In the unfortunate event of an accident or injury, you’ll lead investigations to understand root causes and determine corrective actions. This includes analyzing accident reports and recommending preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
- Your role also includes conducting regular hazard assessments and audits to proactively identify and address potential safety risks.
- Training and Emergency Preparedness
- Employee safety training will be one of your key responsibilities. You’ll conduct training sessions that prepare employees to handle emergencies, understand workplace hazards, and follow safety protocols.
- You’ll also develop emergency preparedness plans, ensuring that AECOM’s workforce is ready to respond to potential crises effectively and safely.
- Advisory and Regulatory Support
- As a SHE Specialist, you’ll provide ongoing regulatory advice to the project teams, offering technical insights to ensure we stay in full compliance with health and safety laws.
- Your expertise will support project teams with regulatory interpretation, making it easier for them to navigate complex EHS requirements.
- Team Leadership
- You’ll have a lead role, often overseeing a team of SHE professionals and support staff. Your leadership will help ensure cohesive teamwork and effective implementation of safety protocols across all project stages.
- With your guidance, the SHE team will work together to identify, address, and resolve safety challenges, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all employees and clients.
