SAFCOL 2026 Learnership Programme gives South African youth aged 18–35 a life-changing path in forestry. Get hands-on training, NQF certification, and career-building experience in one of South Africa’s most vital green industries.

About the SAFCOL 2026 Learnership Programme

The South African Forestry Company Limited (SAFCOL) is committed to empowering the next generation through skills development, education, and sustainable forestry practices. As a state-owned enterprise, SAFCOL plays a key role in managing forest resources responsibly while creating job opportunities for local communities.

The 2026 Learnership Programme includes three main streams designed to help learners specialize in different areas of the forestry sector:

  1. NQF Level 1 General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) in Forestry
  2. Forestry Silviculture Learnership – NQF Level 3
  3. Mechanised Harvesting Learnership – NQF Level 3

Each learnership runs for 10 months and combines accredited theoretical training with supervised practical experience at SAFCOL’s official Training Centre in Platorand, Sabie, Mpumalanga Province.

1. GETC in Forestry (NQF Level 1) Learnership 2026

This entry-level programme is perfect for young people who are eager to begin their forestry journey. It focuses on foundational skills such as:

  • Basic forestry operations
  • Safety and environmental awareness
  • Tree planting, nursery work, and forest maintenance
  • Introduction to forestry tools and techniques

Successful learners will gain a nationally recognized NQF Level 1 qualification that can serve as a stepping stone into higher-level forestry or agricultural programs.

2. Forestry Silviculture (NQF Level 3) Learnership 2026

For those interested in the science and sustainability aspects of forestry, the Silviculture Learnership provides an advanced understanding of forest growth and management. Learners are trained in:

  • Tree breeding and propagation
  • Pest and disease control
  • Sustainable harvesting methods
  • Fire prevention and forest conservation

This qualification prepares learners for roles in forest management, silviculture operations, and other technical positions within forestry companies or government departments.

3. Mechanised Harvesting (NQF Level 3) Learnership 2026

If you enjoy working with machinery and technology, this is an excellent option. The Mechanised Harvesting Learnership offers specialized training in the operation and maintenance of forestry machines such as harvesters, skidders, and forwarders. You will gain both mechanical and operational skills needed to support efficient and sustainable timber production.

This programme suits those with a passion for engineering, fieldwork, and innovation in forest harvesting techniques.
