About the Fitter Apprenticeship at Nampak

The Fitter Apprenticeship is designed to develop competent mechanical artisans through a combination of classroom-based theory and intensive workplace training. Apprentices will work under supervision while learning how to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment used in production environments.

Key Responsibilities and Training Areas

As a Fitter Apprentice, you will be trained to perform a wide range of mechanical duties while meeting required quality and safety standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing all required theoretical modules related to the fitter trade
  • Participating in intensive on-the-job training and workplace learning
  • Achieving required trade theory pass rates (1, 2, and 3) in line with agreed standards
  • Completing both theoretical and practical training within the specified timeframes
  • Assisting with maintenance, installations, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment
  • Performing routine quality checks according to the approved quality plan
  • Demonstrating the ability to carry out practical maintenance tasks under supervision
  • Developing strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
  • Ensuring adherence to plant rules, safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Completing all required record-keeping and technical documentation

This role offers structured learning while gradually increasing responsibility as skills develop.

Minimum Requirements to Apply

  • Minimum N3 in Mechanical Engineering
  • Mathematics and Physical Science as subjects
  • Basic understanding of mechanical concepts
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings

  • Willingness to work overtime and shifts when required
