Key Responsibilities of the Merchandiser Role

If hired, your main purpose as a Merchandiser will be to ensure products are ordered, well-stocked, and attractively displayed, while also providing excellent customer service.

  • Ordering and Counting Stock: Monitor product levels and count stock to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Shelf Replenishment: Restock shelves according to the agreed planogram or layout.
  • Damage Control: Identify and remove damaged stock from the sales floor.
  • Receiving Stock: Assist in receiving stock deliveries, ensuring accurate stock counts and safe handling.
  • Merchandise Display: Set up and maintain product displays to attract customer interest and drive sales.
  • Stock Room Organization: Keep the stockroom neat and ensure no loose items or open cases are left unattended.
  • Supervisor Support: Carry out any merchandising instructions from supervisors as needed.

This job will require a keen eye for detail, excellent time management, and a proactive attitude.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Matric Certificate or NQF Level 4 equivalent.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong customer service abilities.
  • Knowledge of hygiene and housekeeping best practices.
  • Ability to follow visual merchandising principles.
  • Product knowledge is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
