Mechanical Apprenticeships 2025: Apply for Training in Agricultural Equipment at AFGRI

AFGRI invites jobless youth to apply for its 2025 apprentice. Develop your chops in Tractor or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanics. Start your career moment!
Location: Across Various Branches in South Africa
Closing Date: 08 August 2025
What Is the AFGRI Apprenticeship Program All About?
At AFGRI, we believe in developing the next generation of agricultural artisans. Our 3-year apprenticeship program combines practical work experience, formal studies, and specialized product training to help you become a qualified and confident technician.
Here’s what the journey looks like:
- Year 1: You’ll start with a 6-month probation period to ensure that this career path and working environment are the right fit for both you and the company. If both parties are satisfied, the official apprenticeship begins.
- Year 2 and 3: You’ll dive deeper into practical training, theory learning, and workplace exposure. You will attend a Practical Training Institute, study N subjects via distance learning, and receive intensive technical training from some of the top suppliers in the industry—like John Deere, alongside AFGRI’s in-house experts.
Our goal is not only to train you but to help you thrive and gain a nationally recognized qualification as an artisan. Whether you’re working on a state-of-the-art tractor or solving technical challenges in the field, you’ll be learning and growing every step of the way.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an apprentice at AFGRI, your role will evolve as you grow, but here are some of the key duties and responsibilities:
- Be trained to become a Tractor Mechanic/Technician or an Earthmoving Mechanic/Technician
- Participate in routine servicing, maintenance, and repair work on tractors and related machinery
- Learn how to manage stock control, parts usage, and equipment inventory
- Engage with customers and help ensure exceptional technical service delivery
- Work with experienced technicians and mentors in a team-based environment
- Perform general workshop tasks, clean-ups, and safety checks
This is not just an apprenticeship—it’s the beginning of your career as a certified and in-demand artisan in South Africa’s vital agricultural sector.

This apprenticeship program is exclusively open to matriculants for the current intake. AFGRI will advertise again in August and September 2025 for broader applicants.
