What You’ll Do:
As our SHEQ Officer, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring that every individual at Boksburg Power adheres to the highest health and safety standards. Your role is pivotal in creating a work environment where safety is paramount. Here’s a glimpse into what your day-to-day will involve:
- Champion Health and Safety: You’ll make sure that every employee understands and complies with current health and safety legislation. This involves regular briefings, training sessions, and creating a culture where safety is everyone’s responsibility.
- Safe Work Environment: You will be tasked with maintaining a work environment that not only meets but exceeds the health and safety regulations. This means continuously evaluating and improving our practices to ensure they are up-to-date and effective.
- Incident Management: In the unfortunate event of work-related incidents or vehicle accidents, you will lead the investigation and reporting processes. Your goal is to determine the root causes and help implement strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Training and Awareness: Conducting safety training, toolbox talks, and site inductions for staff, contractors, and visitors will be part of your routine. Your role is to ensure everyone is well-informed and prepared to work safely.
- Record Keeping: You’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate SHE (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) registers. This includes keeping track of renewals for permits and licenses, ensuring everything is current and compliant.
- Auditing and Reporting: Regular audits of BWE sites will be part of your job, and you’ll prepare comprehensive MARSH Stars reports. This involves evaluating our practices against industry standards and identifying areas for improvement.
- Standards Control: You’ll ensure that contamination standards and other relevant safety measures are maintained in your area of responsibility. This requires a meticulous approach to monitoring and controlling safety standards.
- Site Appraisals: Regularly inspecting on-site conditions, including premises, housekeeping, electrical, mechanical, and fire safety, will be essential. Your role is to ensure that all safety measures are in place and functioning correctly.
- Risk Assessments: Conducting risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement effective control measures will be a key part of your responsibilities.
- Client Requirements: You’ll prepare and deliver safety files that meet the specific requirements of our clients, ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to in accordance with their standards.
- Contractor Compliance: Verifying the compliance of contractor SHE files will be part of your role. This ensures that all external parties meet our stringent safety requirements.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a dedicated and proactive individual who is eager to contribute to our safety culture.
- Educational Background: A minimum of a Grade 12 qualification is required.
- Driver’s License: A Code B driver’s license is essential to navigate between sites and conduct inspections.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: A thorough understanding of health and safety legislation is crucial for this role.
- Certifications: SAMTRAC or an equivalent certification, along with SHE Internal Auditor training, is required to ensure you have the necessary expertise.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office is necessary to manage reports and documentation effectively. An analytical mindset will help you assess risks and make informed decisions.
- Assertiveness and Investigative Skills: You should be confident in addressing safety concerns and possess a probing nature to uncover issues and find solutions.
