Tsebo Facilities Solutions is on the lookout for a diligent and proactive Health & Safety Officer to join our team in Rustenburg. In this role, you will be at the forefront of ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees, clients, and contractors. Your main objective will be to monitor workplace activities, identify potential hazards, and implement safety protocols that minimize risks and prevent workplace injuries, accidents, and illnesses. Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Safety Oversight: Monitor and assess potentially hazardous and unsafe situations within the workplace. Develop and implement measures to ensure the safety of all personnel, adhering to both Tsebo’s and the client’s health & safety policies.
  • Policy Implementation: Play a key role in the awareness, development, and enforcement of health & safety policies. This includes conducting safety inductions for new employees and running hazard awareness campaigns to keep safety top-of-mind for all staff.
  • Risk Management: Facilitate and assist with hazard identification and risk assessments, ensuring that all potential risks are mitigated. You will also be responsible for implementing incident prevention programs and supporting site managers with health & safety management for contractors and construction activities.
  • Compliance and Inspections: Regularly inspect the workplace and equipment to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Participate in both internal and external audits, and conduct occupational health, safety, and environmental surveys, providing actionable recommendations based on your findings.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop, review, and train staff on emergency response plans. Your role will involve monitoring HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) performance on-site and communicating key safety indicators to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Incident Management: Investigate incidents thoroughly, identifying root causes, and compiling detailed reports. You will work closely with line management to manage incidents, ensure proper documentation, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Training and Development: Ensure that all employees engaged in hazardous tasks receive the proper training to carry out their duties safely. This includes maintaining an efficient record-keeping system for all training, licensing, and safety incident records.

Customer and Client Focus

  • Work closely with teams to maintain a customer-focused attitude, ensuring that all health & safety activities contribute positively to client satisfaction.
  • Handle general queries related to health, safety, and environmental issues within the workplace, providing prompt and effective solutions.
  • Regularly interact with clients to process information, respond to inquiries, and address concerns in a timely manner.
  • Manage conflict effectively, ensuring that all issues are resolved to the satisfaction of both the client and Tsebo’s operational goals.

Reporting and Documentation

Accurate reporting is a critical aspect of this role. You will:

  • Prepare and present monthly safety statistics and trends, offering insights that inform decision-making processes.
  • Ensure that all accident reports and associated documentation are completed and submitted to the Workers’ Compensation Administration (WCA) and other relevant bodies.
  • Provide timely feedback on the closure of audit findings and ensure that all safety-related documentation is meticulously maintained.

  • Demonstrate flexibility in your role, taking on tasks that may not be explicitly covered in the job description as needed.
  • Take responsibility for your performance and promote Tsebo’s image and corporate values through all interactions.
  • Adhere to Tsebo’s Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) Management System policies and procedures, ensuring that all actions align with the company’s ethical standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (NQF5 or equivalent), with additional training in OSHA standards.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a health & safety role within the hospitality, maintenance, or project environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OHS Act, WCA/COID, NOSA/ISO Safety Standards, and SHEQ Management Systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a customer-centric approach to service delivery.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and a good understanding of industrial and commercial occupational hygiene practices.
