Position Overview

The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols across Fedics’ facilities, with a particular focus on food safety and occupational safety standards. This role is essential in supporting our commitment to a safe and compliant workplace, minimizing risks, and enhancing the overall quality of service for our clients. Your core responsibilities will include conducting inspections, promoting health and safety awareness, and ensuring that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requirements are fully met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Health and Safety Procedures: Develop and implement procedures related to health and safety, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with all OHS Act policies.
  • Promote Health and Safety Awareness: Lead initiatives to increase awareness about health and safety within the organization, educating employees on best practices and the importance of adherence.
  • Ensure Compliance with Statutory Requirements: Oversee compliance with OHS standards, facilitating discussions on health and safety concerns and reviewing corrective measures.
  • Perform Site Inspections and Audits: Conduct unannounced inspections, audits, and investigations to evaluate staff readiness and pinpoint areas that require improvement.
  • Manage Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and handle administrative tasks related to health and safety, such as collecting food samples according to quality assurance (QA) protocols.
  • Monitor Cleanliness and Hygiene Standards: Ensure that all company cleanliness and hygiene standards are strictly observed.
  • Maintain Filing Systems: Keep an organized system of records and reports to assist in the resolution of inquiries or compliance queries.
  • Identify Areas for Continuous Improvement: Work towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) system to meet organizational standards.

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work well with team members at all levels and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a professional telephone manner.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to plan, organize, and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Multi-tasking and Attention to Detail: Skilled in managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
  • Result-Oriented: A focus on achieving objectives and a commitment to high-quality service.
  • Proficiency in the OHS Act: Extensive knowledge of OHS Act policies, procedures, and compliance standards.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A minimum of a Grade 12 certificate, though a tertiary qualification in a related field is essential.
  • Health and Safety Certification: SAMTRAC or another recognized Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience: At least two years of experience in a health and safety role, with specific expertise in managing a SHE system.
  • Knowledge of OSH Act Policies: Comprehensive understanding of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act policies and procedures.
