Your Role as a Health and Safety Officer
As a Health and Safety Officer at Nexio, you’ll be responsible for maintaining a safe and compliant work environment across our operations. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and Implementing Health & Safety Policies: Ensure that all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations are up-to-date, clearly communicated, and adhered to by all employees. Regularly review and update these policies to reflect industry standards and legal requirements.
- Managing Health and Safety Files: Compile, maintain, and close all project HSE files, including Gate 1 and Gate 2 files, in accordance with client specifications. Ensure that all documentation is accurate, complete, and readily accessible.
- Conducting Audits and Inspections: Travel to client sites to perform health and safety audits, identify potential risks, and recommend corrective actions. Consolidate and report on workplace inspections, ensuring that all findings are addressed promptly.
- Facilitating Training and Induction: Conduct health and safety training sessions for employees, including inductions for new hires. Maintain the departmental training matrix to ensure that all staff are adequately trained and compliant with safety protocols.
- Supporting ISO Management Systems: Assist in the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001 standards, ensuring that Nexio remains compliant with international best practices.
- Incident Investigation and Risk Assessment: Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and implement preventive measures. Develop fall protection plans and conduct risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards.
- Facility Management Support: Assist with facility management duties, ensuring that our workplaces are safe, functional, and conducive to productivity.
What We’re Looking For
- SACPCMP CHSO Registration: A valid registration with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO).
- Relevant Qualifications: A Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (preferably NEBOSH IDIP) and certifications in ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001 implementation.
- Proven Experience: Experience in compiling health and safety files (Gate 1 and Gate 2), navigating health and safety online platforms (e.g., Safety360), and conducting risk assessments.
- Training Expertise: SETA registration as a Facilitator/Assessor, with experience in delivering health and safety training.
- Strong Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective solutions to health and safety challenges.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees, clients, and stakeholders.
- Own Reliable Transport: The ability to travel to client sites and Nexio facilities as required.
