What We’re Looking For
- Educational Requirements: A Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification (Fire 1 & 2, Hazmat Awareness and Operations are considered equivalent). Any higher qualification or one that meets NQF Level 3 will also be accepted.
- First Aid Training: Candidates must have completed First Aid Level 3 or a Basic Ambulance Course.
- Driver’s License: A valid Code C driver’s license is required for this role.
- Physical Fitness: Candidates must be medically and physically fit to perform operational duties and must also be able to swim.
- Mental Resilience: We’re looking for individuals who do not suffer from phobias such as claustrophobia or acrophobia, as the job may involve working in challenging environments.
- Experience: While not mandatory, prior knowledge or experience in fire and rescue operations will be an added advantage. If you have completed a three-month internship in a related field, that would also be beneficial.
- Personal Attributes: A hardworking attitude and strong self-discipline are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Responding to Tasks: You’ll be actively involved in responding to daily tasks and orders from the Station Officer, ensuring smooth operations at the fire station.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance: Regularly testing and checking firefighting vehicles and equipment will be a crucial part of your role. This includes cleaning and reporting any malfunctions to the officer on duty.
- Firefighting Support: You will assist senior personnel in combating fires. This includes responding to various incidents, adhering to command protocols on the scene, and engaging in efforts to combat grass, wildland, and structural fires.
- Property Protection: Part of your responsibility will be to help protect property and fire equipment from the dangers of fire.
- Control Room Duties: You may also be required to assist in the control room when necessary, helping to coordinate responses to emergencies.
- General Assistance: Any additional tasks assigned by your superiors will be part of your internship experience, giving you a comprehensive understanding of the firefighting field.
- Rescue Operations: Engaging in rescue work will be a critical aspect of your training, equipping you with vital skills for emergency situations.
Compensation and Contract Details
The position offers a monthly salary of R7,888.67, totaling R94,664.00 per annum, under a three-year contract. We are particularly encouraging applicants from the Sedibeng region and those with disabilities to apply, as we value diversity and inclusivity in our workplace.
