Position Overview:
As a Firefighter within Fidelity Services Group, you will respond to fire-related incidents and emergencies, perform rescue operations, render basic medical care, and engage in fire prevention and training activities. Your role will involve operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and ensuring that all emergency protocols are followed to safeguard lives and property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Emergency Response:
- Respond to fires, rescues, and related emergency and humanitarian incidents promptly.
- Address incidents involving hazardous substances with appropriate measures.
- Assist in the extrication and rescue of casualties, following directives from senior officers.
- Provide resuscitation and basic medical care to injured individuals.
- Firefighting Operations:
- Operate a range of firefighting equipment to control and extinguish fires.
- Undertake fire protection duties in potentially life-threatening situations.
- Prepare for emergency incidents under the guidance of supervisors.
- Fire Prevention and Training:
- Train employees on fire theory and practical firefighting techniques.
- Provide guidance on preventive and corrective fire safety actions.
- Participate in drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training.
- Equipment Maintenance and Operations:
- Perform routine maintenance checks on firefighting equipment and vehicles.
- Ensure all firefighting apparatus and emergency equipment are operational and ready for use.
- Drive and operate heavy and specialized vehicles during emergency incidents.
- Use machinery to access buildings or extricate victims and equipment as required.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain detailed records of daily occurrences through a computerized log system.
- Complete all required documentation, including incident reports and safety inspection records.
- Participate in departmental Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Safety Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company policies.
- Conduct safety inspections and provide employees with prescribed protective clothing.
- Support compliance with equipment maintenance schedules and contribute to operational readiness.
- Hazardous Materials (Hazmat):
- Handle hazardous substances safely and in compliance with guidelines.
- Utilize Hazmat knowledge and experience to manage related incidents effectively.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Educational Requirements: Grade 12 (Matric) is the minimum qualification.
- Certifications:
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification (IFSAC Accredited).
- Experience:
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in firefighting and emergency response.
- Advanced driving experience is advantageous.
- Licenses:
- A Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) and a current Code C1 driver’s license.
- Physical Fitness: Must be medically and physically fit to perform the duties of a firefighter.
- Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems.
- Sound knowledge of fire classes, chemistry, and Hazmat guidelines.
Core Competencies:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to react efficiently and effectively to emergency situations.
- Proficiency in administration and interpersonal communication.
- Sound understanding of security industry regulations and group codes of conduct.
- Capability to instruct and guide in fire prevention and emergency response operations.
