What the Assistant Electrical Role Involves
This is an entry-level technical support role, where your main responsibility is to assist electricians and artisans in performing routine maintenance, installations, and repairs on electrical systems. You’ll be expected to perform both physical and technical tasks that support the electrical department’s safe and effective operations.
Your daily responsibilities may include:
Technical Assistance
- Carrying out support functions for artisans and electricians, including preparing tools, handling equipment, and transporting toolboxes.
- Assisting in the disassembly and re-assembly of electrical systems using hand tools.
- Connecting and securing conduit fittings and fabricating brackets for conduit support.
Maintenance Duties
- Keeping tools clean, organized, and in good working order.
- Taking proactive steps to maintain electrical infrastructure in accordance with company procedures.
Safety and Operational Standards
- Working in confined spaces and at heights when required, always under strict safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements: Do You Qualify?

Educational Background:
- A minimum of Grade 11 or equivalent qualification.
- Studying towards a qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field is a strong advantage.
- Enrolment in or intent to pursue a Trade Certificate in Electrical will significantly strengthen your application.
Experience:
- 1–2 years’ experience in electrical engineering tasks, especially within a mining or industrialized environment, is required.
Skills & Competencies:
- Basic proficiency in English is required. Understanding of any additional South African official languages is an advantage.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Able to manage physically demanding tasks and work in challenging conditions, such as confined areas and at heights.
Legal and Health Requirements:
- South African Citizenship.

Work Environment and Shift Rotation
- This is a shift-based position, so candidates must be available to work rotating cycles as scheduled.
- You’ll be exposed to various site conditions including underground areas, surface-level installations, and enclosed or elevated structures.
- All work is performed under strict health and safety protocols, with access to appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
