Cummins Inc. is currently seeking a motivated Engine Workshop Technician – Apprentice (MRC) to join its Service team within the Distribution Business Segment in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities
As an Engine Workshop Technician Apprentice, you will support daily workshop operations while developing your technical abilities. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with general workshop operations to ensure smooth, efficient service delivery
- Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and organization within the workshop environment
- Supporting engine and component disassembly, inspection, and reassembly
- Learning and applying Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and approved repair procedures
- Performing basic repairs and maintenance tasks under supervision
- Completing work completed forms, job cards, and timesheets accurately
- Participating in training programs aligned with business and skill requirements
- Ensuring tools and equipment are clean, functional, and properly maintained
- Proactively reporting incidents, hazards, or issues to supervisors
This role provides exposure to real workshop environments while emphasizing safety, quality, and professional growth.
Required Qualifications
Option 1: Nated Engineering Route
- Matric (Grade 12) or National Senior Certificate (NSC), plus
- N3 Engineering Studies Certificate with passed subjects:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Engineering Drawing
- N4 Engineering Studies Certificate with passed subjects:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Mechanical Draughting
- Mechanotechnics
- N6 Mechanical Engineering Certificate with four subjects passed in:
- Mathematics
- Mechanotechnics
- Mechanical Drawing and Design
Option 2: NCV Route
- National Senior Certificate (Matric – Grade 12), plus
- NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET college with passed subjects:
- Engineering Process
- Professional Engineering Practice
- Applied Engineering Technology
- Automotive Repair & Maintenance
- Mathematics
- English First Language
- Life Skills
- Computer Literacy
OR
- NCV Level 4 qualification alone with the above subjects passed
Preferred Skills & Attributes
While not mandatory, the following will be advantageous:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in diesel engines or power generation
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
- Ability to follow technical instructions and safety procedures
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy

- A valid South African driver’s license is required
- Willingness to work on-site in Johannesburg, Gauteng
