Your Role as an Apprentice
In this role, you’ll be under the direct supervision of experienced professionals who will guide you through the various tasks involved in warehouse operations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Freight Handling, Stacking, and Storage: You’ll support the delivery of warehouse activities, including the handling, stacking, and storage of goods using equipment like forklifts and reach trucks. This hands-on experience is crucial for developing your operational skills.
- De-Groupage and Dispatch: You’ll be involved in the de-groupage process, which involves breaking down large shipments into smaller units for distribution. Additionally, you’ll assist with the dispatch of goods, ensuring that they reach their destination on time and in perfect condition.
- Operational System Maintenance: You’ll support and maintain the warehouse’s operational systems as per instructions. This includes following defined processes, systems, and methods to ensure the efficient delivery of assigned tasks.
- Team Collaboration: While your primary interactions will be with your immediate team, you’ll also have the opportunity to engage with other departments, learning how different aspects of the business work together to achieve common goals.
- Effective Communication: Clear and concise communication is key in a warehouse environment. You’ll be expected to convey information that requires little explanation or interpretation, ensuring that everyone is on the same page.
- Problem-Solving: Task-related issues are bound to arise, and you’ll need to address them appropriately to maintain positive work relationships. This will help you develop your problem-solving skills, which are essential in any role.
What We’re Looking For
- Educational Qualification: A Grade 12 certificate is essential.
- Demographic Criteria: We are particularly encouraging applications from women aged 18 to 35 years. This program is designed to empower women in the logistics industry.
- Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen, based in Johannesburg.
- Additional Skills: While not mandatory, having a forklift license would be a significant advantage.
