About the Role

As a Driver at DBSA, your primary responsibility will be to transport employees, visitors, materials, and equipment to and from designated locations in line with the Bank’s shuttle services. You will also ensure the timely and accurate delivery or collection of goods, adhering to strict schedules and maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Transport and Delivery

  1. Safe Transportation: Transport staff and visitors to and from identified key points in a safe and timely manner.
  2. Logbook Management: Update the logbook before and after each trip to comply with SARS regulatory requirements.
  3. Traffic Compliance: Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations to ensure a safe driving environment for passengers and other road users.
  4. Mileage Recording: Record accurate mileage and odometer readings before and after each trip.
  5. Parcel and Document Handling: Collect and deliver parcels, documents, and mail as per DBSA requirements, including Board documents, foreign exchange documents, and SARS documents.
  6. Incident Reporting: Report vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and incidents to relevant emergency services and your supervisor, ensuring passenger safety at all times.
  7. Occurrence Register: Complete the occurrence register for refuelling and reporting accidents.

Vehicle Maintenance

  1. Routine Checks: Perform daily vehicle maintenance checks, including oil, water, fuel, and tyre pressure, in line with the Road Traffic Act and Regulations.
  2. Tyre Maintenance: Inspect and rotate tyres periodically, ensuring proper wheel alignment and roadworthiness.
  3. Defensive Driving: Operate the vehicle within the limits of road, weather, and traffic conditions while adhering to defensive driving principles.
  4. Cleanliness: Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness of the vehicle.
  5. Scheduled Maintenance: Notify your manager and book vehicle maintenance within the prescribed service contract intervals.
  6. Fuel Management: Monitor fuel usage and ensure timely refuelling.
  7. Emergency Preparedness: Ensure the vehicle is equipped with essential emergency tools, such as a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and reflective triangles.

Key Measurements of Outputs

  • Timely transportation of personnel or visitors.
  • Adherence to vehicle maintenance processes and traffic regulations.
  • Accurate and timely delivery or collection of goods, following the daily itinerary/schedule provided by your line manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Licenses: A valid driver’s license, including a Passenger Driver Permit (PDP).
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience as a passenger and delivery driver.

Key Relationships

  • Internal: DBSA staff.
  • External: DBSA delivery recipients.

Technical Competencies

  1. Written Communication: Ability to write clearly and concisely, expressing simple ideas in work-related documents.
  2. Verbal Communication: Ability to explain simple procedures or instructions to others in a clear and understandable manner.
  3. Computer Literacy: Basic knowledge of common software and office equipment, with an understanding of organizational policies related to technology use.
