You will play an integral part in the farm team and be responsible for transporting fresh vegetables from the farm to various markets and clients. About the Role:

As a Code 10 Learner Truck Driver, the core of your responsibility entails driving a Code 10 truck under supervision for the purpose of learning the ways of truck driving. In this regard, you will be afforded the opportunity for hands-on experience in the delivery of fresh vegetables to various clients across the region. You will be required to drive a variety of vehicles, including bakkies, and assist with loading and unloading goods when needed.

The role is a development role, so over time, there are plentiful opportunities to further develop your driving skills and responsibility. You’ll be working as part of a busy team, but your contribution will be integral to the successful operation of our delivery operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate Code 10 truck, deliver vegetables to clients under supervision while in your learning phase.
  • Drive other vehicles like bakkies while learning the operation of the big truck.
  • Your allocated truck must always be in good condition to drive at any time, safely.
  • Assist with loading and offloading of produce from farms and various delivery points.
  • Complete all relevant delivery documentation and report on the delivery of the stock accurately.
  • Communicate with clients effectively, organize the dates of delivery, and solve any special requests if needed.
  • Studying all routes for making deliveries is helpful in delivering in a timely manner and keeping transportation safe.

Critical Requirements:

  • an active driver’s license with Code 8 (B or EB).
  • A clean criminal record with no history of criminal activity.
  • Physically fit and capable of assisting with the loading and unloading of produce.

Desirable but Not Essential:

  • Prior experience in delivering food products or vegetables is a plus, though not required.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively.

Work Environment:

This position is situated in the Rayton area, specifically for a vegetable farm based between Donkerhoek and Rayton. You will be responsible for local deliveries within Gauteng, which means you will get familiar with the local delivery routes and work with numerous different clients. Note that this is a flexible working environment, wherein working hours and conditions can vary with the weather, and sometimes you will have to extend your working hours to ensure that all your deliveries are completed on time.

Working Hours & Leave:

  • Hours: You’ll typically work 40 to 45 hours per week, with a fixed schedule.
  • Leave: For every 17 days worked, you’ll be entitled to one day of leave. Additionally, you will receive 30 sick leave days over a 3-year period.
  • Notice Period: The notice period for leaving the company varies depending on your tenure, with 1 week for less than 6 months, 2 weeks for between 6 months and 1 year, and 4 weeks for more than 1 year.
