City of Johannesburg is offering an exciting internship opportunity in Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID). About the Internship

The SHE and COID Internship Programme 2025 is designed to provide unemployed graduates with hands-on experience in administrative and operational functions related to occupational health and safety. As an intern, you will work within the Group Corporate and Shared Services department, specifically under the Group SHE & FCM branch, located at 27 Stiemens Street, JD House, Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

This internship is ideal for individuals who are passionate about public administration, workplace safety, and making a positive impact in their community.

  • Remuneration:
  • Completed Qualifications (min 360 credits): R9,960.45 per month (Basic Salary, no benefits)
  • Enrolled Students: R3,500.00 per month (Basic Salary, no benefits)

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this internship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Matric/Grade 12 certificate plus a National Diploma in Business Administration or Public Administration (NQF Level 6).
  • Confirmation Letter: A confirmation letter from your educational institution (if you are still enrolled).
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in MS Office Applications.

Primary Function

As an intern, your primary role will be to support the Head of Department, Group SHE, in ensuring the success of the council’s Occupational Health and Safety programmes. You will be involved in various administrative tasks and contribute to the overall efficiency of the department.

Key Learning Areas

During the internship, you will gain experience in the following areas:

  1. Administration/Reception Functions: Support the Occupational Health and Safety Association (OHASA) with administrative tasks.
  2. Administration and Logistics: Assist with the coordination and logistics of SHE and COID programmes.
  3. Communication: Develop strong communication skills by interacting with team members and stakeholders.
  4. General Office Administration: Gain hands-on experience in office management and administrative support.
