Who Can Apply?

- Applicants must be residents of Johannesburg.
- They should have completed Grade 12 (NQF level 4).
- A Degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying is required.
- An Honours Degree in the relevant field would be advantageous.
- Candidates must not have participated in an internship program previously.
Duration and Remuneration
The internship will span a period not exceeding 18 months. Successful candidates will be remunerated with a basic salary of R9,531.54 per month, though this does not include additional benefits.
Location
The internship will be based at the Old Mutual Building, located at 75 Helen Joseph Street, providing a central and accessible location for participants.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Areas
The primary function of this internship involves the measurement of quantities for Interim Payment Certificates and monitoring invoices related to claims from the Implementing Agent. Interns will be engaged in various activities that are crucial to the city’s infrastructure development. Key learning areas include:
- Managing activities related to infrastructure construction in alignment with the City’s policies and guidelines.
- Compiling reports, both quarterly and monthly, that provide insights into the progression of transportation infrastructure undertakings.
- Monitoring financial controls and procedures, providing information to support financial planning.
- Ensuring the quality of deliverables and formulating the scope of work for projects.
- Reading and interpreting design and detailed drawings from architects and engineers.
- Monitoring costs and achieving deliverables within the stipulated budget.
- Writing and presenting reports effectively.
- Assisting in ensuring project deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
- Proactively managing project risks.

- Proficiency in ICT, particularly MS Office applications (with a strong emphasis on MS Excel).
