About the Role
Food Service Assistant position is essential in ensuring that high standards of food presentation, hygiene, and service are consistently met. In this role, you will assist with the daily preparation and serving of meals, manage cleanliness of food service areas, and contribute to creating a smooth and efficient operation.
You will play a vital role in delivering a positive dining experience to customers and supporting the kitchen team in keeping operations running effectively. This is a fast-paced, hands-on position, ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, enjoys methodical tasks, and is passionate about service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
In your daily duties, you will be responsible for the following:
- Support with the preparation of meals, including placing entrees, salads, and side dishes on the serving line as needed.
- Accurately store and document leftover food to ensure waste management and compliance.
- Ensure that tables, kitchen surfaces, and dining areas are kept clean and organized at all times.
- Monitor and report any issues raised by customers or staff and assist in resolving them where possible.
- Assist in the handover of stock to the next shift by counting and signing off responsibilities accurately.
- Attend any scheduled training sessions, team meetings, or staff briefings.
- Adhere to all health and safety protocols, especially food safety and cleaning procedures.
- Follow all company policies and procedures when performing tasks and supporting team members.
- Take on additional tasks as reasonably requested by management.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 qualification is required.
- Previous experience in a canteen, hospital kitchen, or corporate food service environment will be advantageous.
Desired Skills and Personal Qualities
- Motivation to learn, grow, and take pride in delivering excellent service.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
