Overview

Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) is seeking a reliable, professional, and highly skilled Driver to join its Human Capital division. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong track record in corporate transportation and delivery services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of employees, visitors, and essential materials within and around the DBSA’s operations in Midrand.

This role is pivotal to the smooth functioning of the organization, ensuring that personnel, documents, and parcels are delivered promptly while maintaining the highest levels of safety, protocol, and professionalism. The driver will work under the guidance of the Line Manager and will follow scheduled itineraries, adhering to all traffic regulations and vehicle maintenance protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. Transportation of Personnel and Visitors

  • Safely transport DBSA staff, visitors, and clients to designated locations on time.
  • Maintain a logbook detailing each trip before and after journeys, in line with SARS and organizational regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to traffic laws, road safety regulations, and defensive driving principles to ensure passenger safety.
  • Monitor mileage and odometer readings accurately before and after trips.
  • Deliver important documents and parcels to internal departments, external clients, and Board Members as required.
  • Handle the transportation of foreign exchange documents and other sensitive materials to designated banks under Treasury directives.
  • Respond appropriately to vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or unforeseen events, prioritizing passenger safety at all times.
  • Complete incident and occurrence reports, including refuelling and accidents.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and Safety

  • Conduct daily vehicle checks in accordance with the Road Traffic Act, including oil, water, fuel, tyre pressure, and overall vehicle condition.
  • Inspect tyre surfaces, rotate tyres periodically, and ensure wheel alignment for safe and efficient driving.
  • Maintain both interior and exterior cleanliness of the assigned vehicle.
  • Schedule and book regular vehicle maintenance and service within prescribed contract intervals.
  • Monitor fuel levels, ensure timely refuelling, and report fuel consumption patterns.
  • Ensure the vehicle is equipped with essential emergency tools, including a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and reflective triangles.

  • Timely and efficient transportation of personnel, visitors, and materials.
  • Strict adherence to vehicle maintenance schedules and road safety regulations.
  • Accurate and timely delivery of documents, parcels, and other critical materials.
  • Compliance with daily schedules and itineraries as assigned by the Line Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with Passenger Driver Permit (PDP).

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a passenger and delivery driver in a corporate or formal environment.
  • Proven experience in transporting staff and handling deliveries safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with operating multiple vehicle types, including sedans, minibuses, and light delivery vehicles.
  • Solid knowledge of road safety regulations and fleet management best practices.
  • Awareness of safety, security, and protocol requirements when transporting employees and visitors.

Desirable:

  • Advanced driving certification, such as Defensive Driving, VIP/Professional Driving, or Advanced Driver Training.
