Sasol is seeking a skilled and motivated Artisan Instrument Mechanician Grade 2 to join its Secunda Operations (EOP: OME) team. Job Summary
In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plant instrumentation and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. You will play a critical role in preventing downtime, responding to emergencies, and supporting Sasol’s long-term maintenance strategy.

Key Responsibilities
As an Artisan Instrument Mechanician Grade 2, your responsibilities will include:
Equipment Maintenance & Operations
- Monitor and control assigned machinery and instrumentation to ensure safe and reliable plant operations
- Perform troubleshooting, fault-finding, and emergency repairs on plant equipment
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance routines to support business continuity
- Ensure effective equipment utilisation and accurate maintenance history feedback
Safety, Risk & Compliance
- Comply with all Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO, and other internal standards)
- Conduct hazard identification and task risk assessments before and during work
- Read, interpret, and implement task risk assessments and emergency procedures
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, PDAs, and RCAs to improve plant safety
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and follow waste disposal procedures
Planning, Documentation & Reporting
- Understand and use the plant maintenance documentation system
- Work within the planning and work management system to meet deadlines
- Provide accurate and timely feedback to supervisors, group leaders, and planning officers
- Ensure correct job history is captured to support equipment renewals, upgrades, and spares planning
Teamwork & Leadership
- Take the lead in team efforts and specific maintenance tasks when required
- Act as group leader when appropriate to your career path
Continuous Improvement & Development
- Participate in root cause analyses and provide technical input to RCA teams
- Contribute to the overall maintenance strategy and plant sustainability initiatives
- Conduct My IMS physical inspections to maintain plant integrity
- Mentor learners and junior artisans through knowledge sharing and example
Personal Growth & Performance
- Identify personal training and development needs and incorporate them into your PDP
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and self-awareness at all times
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Education
- National Senior Certificate (Matric) or N3
- Mathematics, English, and Physical / Engineering Science
Trade Qualification
- Occupational Trade Qualification in Instrumentation (Red Seal) – Mandatory
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience as an Instrumentation Artisan in an industrial, plant, or mining environment
