Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for one or more of the following duties:
Street Cleaning & Waste Management
- Perform street cleaning and sweeping using brooms, shovels, and litter-picking tools
- Clean designated streets, pavements, tourist areas, townships, and informal settlements
- Collect refuse manually and place it into refuse bags for collection
Refuse Bag Handling & Stacking
- Collect refuse bags and place them in designated stacking areas
- Stack refuse bags correctly with openings facing the road
- Remove boxes and ensure stacking areas remain neat and compliant
Bin Delivery & Exchange
- Retrieve new or substitute refuse bins from the central storage.
- Inspect bins for damage before delivery
- Load and offload bins using the bin delivery truck
- Exchange damaged bins with new ones at delivery locations
- Record bin serial numbers in the delivery register
- Ensure customers sign delivery receipts
Safety & Operational Compliance
- Always wear required protective clothing
- Clear spillages caused by refuse bag breakage
- Observe safety precautions during refuse collection
- Report safety incidents, injuries, or equipment issues to supervisors
General Duties
- Distribute refuse bags to consumers where required
- Liaise with the public professionally and courteously
- Follow instructions from Team Leaders and Operations Supervisors
- Complete daily assigned tasks efficiently
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum Grade 10 qualification
- A minimum of 12 months of experience in cleaning or general labor.
- No criminal record
- Must be physically and mentally fit
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must reside within the City of Johannesburg
- Proof of residence or official letter confirming address is required

- Basic understanding of tools, equipment, and cleaning procedures
